The Story of Willett Built
From Shipwrights to Engineers, Boat Builders and highly skilled GRP Specialists
A History of Marine Excellence
Willett Marine was established in 2011 by founder Andy Willett after a 10-year spell at Southampton Yacht Services (later known as Oyster Marine).
Being extremely familiar with Oyster Yachts both as a Shipwright/Boatbuilder and as a new build Project Manager, Oyster Motor and Sailing Yachts were naturally going to be a part of things to come.
After-sales and customer service have always been Andy’s focus and were one of the main reasons Andy wanted to create a new venture of his own.
Andy’s knowledge, particularly on Oyster Yachts, but also with other modern boat manufacturers and traditional/classic yachts, cannot be gained easily without real experience at the sharp end.
This experience, combined with Andy’s passion and enthusiasm, lifted his new venture ‘Willett Marine’ off to a great start.
Andy’s ethos has always been to treat the care of each vessel as if she were his own, ensuring the highest quality of finish and service is given to each project.
Likewise, each client and their experience, along with their sailing aspirations, should be supported during and after the project has been completed.
This is why Willett Marine has retained so many clients over the years and continuously has a steady pipeline of new and repeat business, with only word-of-mouth advertising ever being required.
Providing opportunities for young people to start their boat building careers
Take advantage of our experience and avoid the common pitfalls our industry has - it makes sense.
Students of both campuses are encouraged by us and, where possible, supported by us in gaining necessary exposure to real-life situations in a high-quality busy boatyard. We often provide work experience opportunities for aspiring boat builders, designers and naval architects.
Giving just a little time and focus to the next generation of talent is one of our core values. These people are the oxygen that our industry will need in the future.
This gives the students hands-on practical experience in a real-life working boatyard environment and gives them an understanding of applying their learning to actual working projects.
Where we see enthusiastic and ambitious students, we do consider providing additional work experience to work alongside their studies and provide them with the stepping stones to establish their boatbuilding career.
